How to Count Days Between Two Dates
Inclusive vs Exclusive
Whether to count the start and/or end date depends on context. "I stayed from Monday to Friday" typically means 5 days including both ends. A deadline "in 30 days" usually means the end date only, so the start is excluded.
Business Days
Business day counting skips Saturdays and Sundays. A project that needs "10 business days" from a Monday will be due the following Friday — 14 calendar days away. Bank holidays are not included in this calculator. For a full date interval with month and year breakdown, try the date calculator.
Weekday Formula
Counting weekdays mathematically: every 7-day block contains exactly 5 weekdays. Whole blocks are multiplied by 5, then the weekdays in the remaining days are added individually — avoiding slow day-by-day loops.
Common Uses

Worked example
From 6 April 2026 (UK tax year start) to 31 October 2026 (self-assessment registration deadline): 208 calendar days, 149 business days (Mon–Fri). Enabling "include end date" adds one to each total. A Net-30 invoice dated 6 April is due by 6 May (calendar) or 19 May (30 business days).

Does the day counter include the start and end date?
This is controlled by the inclusive/exclusive setting. An inclusive count includes both dates; exclusive excludes one or both. Counting Monday to Friday gives 4 days exclusive or 5 days inclusive. Deadlines typically use exclusive counting — "in 30 days" usually means the end date only.
What counts as a business day?
Business days are Monday through Friday, excluding Saturdays and Sundays. This calculator does not exclude bank or public holidays, which vary by country. For legal or contractual counting, always verify whether holidays are excluded by the applicable rules.
How many business days are in a year?
A typical year contains approximately 260–261 weekdays (Monday–Friday), depending on how the calendar falls. Subtracting public holidays (which vary by country) typically leaves around 250 actual working days. The exact number changes each year.
