How Age Is Calculated
This calculator uses the Western age system, where age increases by one on each birthday. The result is expressed as years, months, and days by counting complete calendar units: a full year elapses when you return to the same month and day, a full month elapses when you reach the same day number in the next month.
Month-end edge cases: When the birth day doesn't exist in the target month (e.g., born on January 31 and counting to February), the calculator borrows days from the previous month. This means January 31 to February 28 counts as 28 days, not one month. Different tools handle this differently — both approaches are mathematically valid.

Leap year edge cases
People born on 29 February only have a technical birthday in leap years. For all other years, most systems count their birthday as either 28 February or 1 March. This calculator follows the Western standard: each full year elapses when you return to the same month and day, borrowing days at month ends where necessary.
